Delhi – ur doin it AMAZING
So yeah we all know that the security almost everywhere in India is really shit. It doesn’t matter whether it is a village or a metropolitan city, even the capital of the nation. We don’t care, and we don’t even learn from our own mistakes. This was proved in the recent bomb blasts at Delhi.
But what we do after being fucked by terrorists is even more awesome. First of all, the media. They were at the bombsites within minutes after the incident(s). But instead of helping out the injured, they were busy focusing their cameras on them and showing the audience how badly the terrorists had hit Delhi.
Next were the politicians who came out to comment on the attacks. Most of them were stuck with the line that the people who have done this want to exploit the communal differences in India. Yeah right, why don’t you go ahead and tell us something like “We breathe air everyday”; or maybe tell us that “The Sun rises every morning” or something even more dumb and obvious. Then there were these other politicians who said they would ensure that the people who did this would get punished. Not even one of them came forward and admitted that it was due to the negligence of the authorities that this had happened. Not a single one said what the government would now do to prevent such attacks in the future. Instead, our honorable minister, Shivraj Patil was busy changing clothes. Some other government representative came forward and said that a monetary compensation would be given to the families of the affected people. Exactly what those guys would be thinking right now. Awesome.
Mobile networks were apparently jammed on purpose (or maybe they just got jammed due to high traffic), so everybody was left wondering if their family/friends are still alive or not. It took me around 25 tries to get through to my Dad who was out with Mom near Pitampura for grocery shopping.
However, what happened today was the most amazing thing. The Delhi Police started turning all public dustbins upside down and sealed them. This is what the Police have to say – “If there are no dustbins at public places, terrorists won’t have anything to drop bombs into.” Something even more amusing is that DMRC decided that the Metro was too clean to be called a part of India, and so they ordered all the dustbins to be removed from the Metro stations. So now you’re screwed while using the Metro – if you litter the Metro area, it is a punishable offence; you have to pay the fine. And since there are no dustbins, you just have to hold on to your garbage till you get home.

You ought to be glad the government hasn’t installed CCTV cameras all across the city, and are not stopping your for security checks every time you step outside of your house. Sometimes I’m glad I’m not in America. They had ONE 9/11 and the entire nation went berserk. We look at the terrorists squarely in the eye every day and say, “You did what? Oh … okay, then”, and move on.
Terrorists are a serious threat, but taking them *too* seriously will destroy our society. The only reason people are scared of terrorist attacks is that they are more visible and more dramatized than any other problem the country faces today. The terrorists are just a few madmen who are annoyed because, quoting Eric Cartman here, they’ve got sand in their ass cracks. The attacks killed, I think, 50 people. More people are dying from hunger every day. More people die in dirty government hospitals, untreated and uncared for, every single day. Why doesn’t anybody care for them?
BTW, you know why the terrorists scare you? Because you are worried that one day you might be a victim of a bomb blast like the ones in Delhi. Or your family. And this is exactly what the terrorists want. We’re in the midst of a phycological guerilla war. The only way to win is to lose the fear and to lose that feeling of distrust towards “strangers” (“sandigdha vyakti”, anyone?).
PS: Does anyone else find the announcement “please do not befriend any unknown person” on the Metro amusing?
