Upgraded to Wordpress 2.6
Its barely been over 3 months since they released 2.5, which was supposed to be a big big release, and we already have a new one. We had 2.5.1 about two weeks after 2.5.
The upgrade hardly took me 5 minutes, but is becoming irritating, considering I have to do a few boring steps every time, and can’t seem to automate it.
I have to download the installation archive from the website, unpack it, remove the wp-content folder from it (because wp-content is the folder which contains all the changes I have made to the configuration of theme and plugins), and then pack the files directly (not packing it inside a directory called ‘wordpress’), upload the archive, and then extract it using the cPanel file manager.
My only request would be to include an ‘Upgrader’s Archive’, which has all the files directly inside it, and not inside a directory, and is devoid of the wp-content directory. This would make the process of upgrading easier for everyone.
As far as WP 2.6 is concerned, it mosly contains bug fixes and a few new features that should have been included in 2.5, but weren’t because of lack of votes from the community. After using WP 2.5, a lot of people felt that a few features were missing, and so they gave their feedback and subsequently these were included in 2.6.
A new feature that I almost immediately saw after opening my new Dashboard was that the total comment count had been included on the Dashboard, which was missing from 2.5.

You even bother to do the upgrade manually? :p
