PCLinuxOS 2008 MiniME

MiniME is a small ‘preview’ version of PCLinuxOS 2008, it’s a 279 MB live CD, with just the basics and some important tools. It can be installed to hard drive, and then the packages be manually installed, later on, from Synaptic. MiniME is also capable of functioning as a complete recovery system. It has a GUI tool called Redo-MBR, included to restore your GRUB bootloader, if it has gone bad for some reason. The live CD can also create a live USB for you, which can be handy if you wish to have a tool for emergency boot up and recovery.

The thing that I did not like was the default theme. They have clearly ripped it off from Vista, which is bad. KDE is so flexible, and Texstar doesn’t have lack of creative people on his team, so why steal? Many of the user submitted themes on KDE-Look.org are much better than this black one.

Here’s a picture slideshow from Texstar’s album -
