New MacBook Air (Picture Slideshow)
MacBook Air is Apple’s new laptop, which they claim is the thinnest laptop in the world. The official website says it ‘as thin as your index finger’ (the technical specs say that it has a maximum thickness of 1.94 cm). Even though it is extremely slim, it doesn’t compromise on features. It has a 13.3-inch widescreen LED display, full-size keyboard and large multi-touch trackpad. It weighs just 1.3 Kgs, and is enclosed in a sleek and elegant aluminium cover.
It has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB on-chip shared L2 cache running at full processor speed, 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM on board, and an 80 GB hard drive.
When I first saw the pictures of the MacBook Air, the first question that popped in my head was, obviously, “How did they fit all that stuff in it?”.
Well the Apple guys don’t reveal much, except for the fact that they’ve ’slimmed’ down each and every part. They even claim that the battery is the slimmest battery in the world.
Some things that I got to know from the pics -
*The ports (USB, Headphone jack, Micro-DVI) are neatly tugged under a flip-down door, thereby occupying negligible space when folded.
* It has a magnetic latch instead of the usual mechanical one, that prevents the screen from flipping open when the cover is closed.
* Like other MacBooks, it uses the MagSafe cord and port for charging (It’s a magnetic cord that easily snaps off, so that if you trip on the cord, the laptop doesn’t come flying with it).
