MTNL Triband Broadband Horribly Slow
It seems as if I’m back in the 256 Kbps era. Even worse than that maybe. Since today morning, I have been getting very very slow speeds from my MTNL broadband connection. And that too, when I need it the most, to study for my Computer Science Board exam.
I’ve tried changing DNS servers, rebooted my router hundreds of times, tried 5 different browsers, replaced the line, checked connections, got line parameters (SNR Margin and Line Attenuation) checked by an MTNL babu, but no result. And this problem is not only mine, it seems to be spread in the whole of North Delhi. Only I know how painful it was for me to open up the WordPress Dashboard and write this post. The issue has been confirmed by some Delhi IBF members, and also by a friend who lives nearby.
This has happened before, a lot of times, and was the situation about 40% of the times in January 2008. I even faced a lot of complete downtime, and that was the reason why January was the most unproductive month for me. Every other day, the people at my local exchange claimed to be ‘facing problems’ due to shortage of ports and overloading of bandwidth. They even claimed that the demand is so high, they may terminate services of customers on delay of over 1 month in payment in bills.
Things seemed to have settled down at the end of January, and February was good, with less than 2% of downtime. But now the problems seem to have returned. Considering the high demand, I don’t think they’ll be in any mood to fix things soon.

yes, its so frustratingly slow for me from the very first day. I have complaind a lot but no result, nothing happend. i will go for airtel if things doesn’t improves. waiting for airtel to come into our locality.

MTNL is a sister concern company of BSNL and comes under Central Govt… The customer base of MTNL is nearly 5.92 million. And from past few years the graph is going down even if the Indian Govt. is spending too much of huge amount to uplift the customer base, but still the graph is going down and the main reason is their “GREAT SERVICES”. The MTNL lineman don’t have enough idea to configure even a modem and to solve a single complaint they take nearly 1 month or more because the don’t have enough workforce and the coverage area is very big. And when you see the MTNL exchange you become shocked to see their exchange, made of HUWIA equipments, and when you see the AIRTEL exchange you will find Ericson equipments just because the cost of HUWAI equipments are nearly half then Ericson.
Basically they have two type of exchange one is for 256 Kbps and one for above 256Kbps, if you buy plan for above 256 then you may get good response because for that only they use Ericson exchange.

I don’t know why the Govt. change the plan to get more customer and spend a huge amount in ads, the salary of lineman is nearly 15000/-, I think this is a total waste. Customers are very much frustrated from MTNL. If you visit the MTNL exchange you will find many customers shouting on the Area Manager. MY personal experience with MTNL was pathetic and now I switched to another services provider and now I am very much satisfied.

man.. this problem is not only your’s everyone is facing it .. i beleive.. iatleast i m .. I m in mumbai and MTNL sucks I thought it is little so took it .. ofcourse i also thought that BSNL was hopeless but atleast mtnl would be fine, but in vain.. if I knew about this, i wud never have taken the connection. even smal local cable wala’s are better, atleast you threaten them something happens .. but the uneducated old staff of this stupid government company just like all others is not bothered about anybody or even whether anyone’s dead.. well, atleast private companies are interested in giving you/selling you connections, not counting the services later good or bad, but the company who is not even interested in ppl giving their money to them for new connection, just like all other govnmt things they know that the staff is not getting anything from us. whteher 1 person has or 1 lakh or none they will get their so called salary packet every month in their bank.. so who cares.. this sucks now. My computer has become slow due to this done everything, all in vain. and there is not even a client /manager thru which we can connect it .. its always connected..so stupid it connects even before the services of the system thats the reason for PC being so slow now.. getting less than 10.. just imagine on a 512 connection.. and these ppl don;t even know the difference between modem and router or connection speed and download speed .
