CBSE Computer Practicals

Smooth, but unsatisfactory. I was a bit nervous, everybody was, but not as nervous as I should have been for a ‘Board’ practical.

Reached school well before time. I was waiting for The Uncool Shitty to arrive, he had photocopied print outs for me, which I had to stick in my practical file. So time just drifted away as I waited, until I realised that it was already 5 minutes past the starting time of the exam. Damn Shitty, I thought, and ran towards the computer lab, only to find The Uncool Shitty, standing like a puddle of shit, chuckling, making silly jokes with a group of other losers, while I was waiting for him inside the class, scared enough to pee in my pants.

I hurled out a few quick profanities towards him, snatched the print-outs, and stuck them in my file, while kneeling down on the floor, outside the computer lab. Then we moved in, were given instructions, allotted seats, given question papers and answer sheets.

The program given to me was rather simple. (It was to modify records in a sorted file with student data, the only problem I faced was that my ‘Display records’ function was displaying the last record 2 times. Was a minor bug, fixed it). The really scary part was the viva. We had this external examiner (Chinmay identified him as the HOD, Computer Department, Mata Jai Kaur Public School) who looked very austere, and was taking approximately 15-20 minutes for a viva, with each student.

Chinmay and me, we were partners, so we had to give our viva together. The first part of the viva was related to the program I had made, and was a bit tricky, but I managed a few correct answers. Chinmay too scored good in the first part. When it came to the second part, which was related to our project, he really got nasty. He threw at us the most obvious questions, but in an unclear and deliberately confusing way. We both answered differently to the same questions, so he got a hint that the project wasn’t ours. We tried again to cover up by saying that ‘a common friend’ helped us out with the program, the display related functions, but he was just not buying it. He told us to leave.

Great. I f**kin screwed my Board practicals. Wooooww.

It’s my fault, in a way. I could have easily made a simple and decent project, but I got lazy when I saw that I already had a program in hand. Serves me right.
