AIEEE 2008 CCB Counseling - Unorganised, Tiring, and Totally Stupid
Even though I had secured a rank of 644 in the CEE 2008, I decided to go to the CCB counseling to secure a backup seat for myself, just in case I mess up something at DCE/NSIT counseling.
The first and biggest stupid thing that any guy on entering the counseling would get to know that the counseling is on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis. Instead of honoring guys with higher ranks and calling them earlier, here we had people pushing in for a spot in the counseling like wild animals. Our first mistake was that we reached 20 minutes late.
They had a token system over there, people who were arriving had to go into a small room, enter their names into a register, take a token from the guy sitting over there, and move to the waiting hall, where token numbers were being called by serial. My token number was 155, so I had to wait for a long time before I was called. While I waited, I kept on staring at the poorly seat vacancy status, which was scrolling between different institutes with a set time interval. I also called Sneezy a few times, just to inquire how things were working out at the PDGQM.
When I was finally called (which was about an hour later), I went up and took the folder that they gave me, which contained a declaration letter that I had to fill up and sign. Inside that folder, we had to place attested photocopies of -
- AIEEE Admit Card
- AIEEE Rank Card
- Date of Birth Proof (10th Class Passing Certificate)
- 12th Class Marksheet and Passing Certificate
We had attested photocopies of the last two things, but not for the first two. This was the second mistake we made, and so we lost time in getting the docs photocopied.
After getting that done, we arranged the documents in the file and submitted it at the counter where the folders were being collected and documents verified. They asked me to bring along the originals for verification of the documents. First of all, if you are checking them yourself, why would you need us to get them attested by a gazetted officer? After that, the documents which have been attested by a gazetted officer, have to self-attested, again! This is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. I quickly self attested all my documents, got them verified by the aunty over there, who then took my file and asked me to wait in another room until my token number was called.
In the other room, I had to wait for another hour, after which I got to know that my turn would be after lunch (2 pm). A one and a half hour penalty for being 10 minutes late (because of the photocopies). We went out, and came back after lunch at around 1:50 pm. Around 2:30, I was called inside the computer room for counseling. I had to submit my draft, get the documents rechecked, and then sit down on a computer and fill my branch+institute choice. I filled 10 choices in Form 1 and two institutes in Form 2. I froze my choices and then proceeded to the locking counter to get my choices locked. Another aunty there locked my choices, took print outs, got me to sign them. She kept one of them in the file and handed over to me the other one. This is where I went home.
The overall experience was tiring. Everything was unorganised, a lot of people were confused about what Form 2 is, and how exactly the refund rule works. There were no directions as to where people should wait. Also, they had called ranks 5000-10000, out of which 227 had showed up at the Delhi centre. 227 kids + at least 1 parent each itself made the population around 500. And these people were to be fitted inside a hall whose dimensions were approximately 30×20 ft. This was what caused chaos and delay. The whole process actually took me no more than 30 minutes. But I spent around 6 hours over there, just because the authorities were unable to manage the event properly. Totally expected from something that comes under CBSE.
For those who want to know, I got a rank of 5499 in the AIEEE 2008, and according to the first counselling result, I have been alloted IT at NIT Kurukshetra.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again : IT sucks. If you want to clean up the mess made by thousands of clueless n00bs at a large MNC for the rest of your life, be my guest. But CompSci at Thapar would be the way to go if you want to be respected.
(PS : In India, universities generally have no idea about what they should teach in IT. Sometimes the CompSci and IT syllabus turns out to be exactly the same. Check the syllabus before you do anything.)
(PPS : Thapar = BMW, remember.)
