Admission To NIT Kurukshetra

I left for Kurukshetra this morning because I had to grab the only decent backup seat I have in my hand, at NIT Kurukshetra. On the basis of my AIEEE rank of 5499, I was allotted Information Technology at NIT Kurukshetra.

First of all, reaching NIT Kurukshetra was not so easy because we chose to travel by the famous Haryana Roadways bus. The bus dropped us at Pipli Chowk, from where we had to hire an auto rickshaw. Mind it, these rickshaws aren’t like the ones you would find in Delhi, as in they make a lot of noise, run on diesel and you won’t be the only ones sitting in it. They work more like the RTVs over here, and have a fixed fare for a particular distance. This rickshaw dropped us at the Gate No. 3 of Kurukshetra University, which was around 2.5 Km away from NIT, inside the campus. From there, we had to hire another cycle rickshaw to reach NIT (auto rickshaws are not allowed inside the campus).

Now for admission process. When we entered the room where admissions were taking place, we were given a file similar to the one we were given in the CCB counseling, in which there was a form which we had to fill out and we had to put in documents inside the file in a fixed order. After the documents were arranged, we had to go inside a cabin where the Deputy Registrar was checking our documents and collecting fee. We were given a receipt for the draft that we submitted to them. We were then asked to wait outside as our admission letter was being printed. After we got our admission letter, we took the fee receipt to a guy who was allotting hostel rooms. He took the receipt from us, asked us to fill out our details in a register, and allotted a room with another guy from Delhi. With this, the admission process was over.

We decided to check out the hostel. It was pathetic. Nothing but plain old empty rooms full of damaged and antique furniture, the kind you would find in a government hospital. In fact, the hostel did look a lot like a government from outside. And to add to beauty of this scenario, because of an increase in number of seats, the rooms made for 3 people to share would be shared by 4. If you were to believe me, a 4th person cannot be accommodated in a room of that size. But of course, they had every plan to do so.

Though the hostels sucked, but the campus was quite big, open, calm and pleasant. I’m not sure if I’d be able to survive in such a place. Anyway, I had to remind myself that NIT Kurukshetra was a backup, and there is a very small chance that I’ll actually have to use it. Just 3 more days left for the CEE 2008 counseling.

I know a guy who had a good rank in the AIEEE but did not join NIT because of the hostel. Believe me, you’ll probably die there. Government hostels suck. Imagine sharing the same toilet with at least 20 other people.

We Delhi folk are a minority. The rest of the country still craps under a tree.

@general : “We Delhi folk are a minority. The resr of the country still craps under a tree. ”

dude, what do u mean by that? thats not the kinda attitude u wd take to somewhere other than Delhi, if u dont want ur ass kicked. sitting in our comfy toilets inside our plush homes doesn’t help us grow up, u can’t foresee what kinda hardships we will hv to face in the future. and the above comment is in very poor taste. do u really think Delhi is as big as they get, in India? thats utter rubbish.

btw, i must clarify that i too am a Delhiite (more of an NCRite), but i absolutely refrain from ur point of view here.

“”thats not the kinda attitude u wd take to somewhere other than Delhi”"
    Oh yeah? Watch me.

A clarification for the *other* retarded people out there : by “we Delhi folk” I mean “we who have access to all the whizzbang stuff from the west”.

  5. Haryana Roadways bus!!! You should be glad you’re still alive!

  6. Yeah. And by Delhi folk, we also mean *we who have been born and bred in Delhi* and certainly not *we who migrated from eastern UP a year back into Delhi near Ghaziabad*. And don’t expect me to be subtle. Just returned from Banaras, on a PATNA RAJDHANI! Alive!

@achyuth sanjay: Sorry. I simply refuse to take you for a Delhiite. Sorry, but no.

@sneezy melon: dude, i came to delhi when i was 6 months old, shifted to noida when i was 5 years old, completed my school education in noida, and u refuse me to call a delhiite? we might even have seen each other in some IT event or quiz (i m achyuth sanjay, i was from DPS Noida, and was even invited to the pan delhi quizzers meet, which i cdnt attend bcoz i live in indirapuram)! i m just saying that the misconception of urs that people of delhi are so hi-fi or that those guys that don’t have access to “whizz-bang” stuff from the west suck, is well………a misconception. we r not gonna live our whole lives in delhi, and we WILL hv to go to other places, and believe me, telling a 6 foot JAT that his toilet stinks(literally), is not quite ur idea of a wisecrack.

Sneezy is right. From your comments, you don’t seem like someone who has ever even *been* to Delhi.

  11. i think NIT kurukshetra is the best nit in all over nits

Wrong. It is almost universally agreed that NIT Trichy is the best of all NITs. Though NIT Warangal or even Surathkal could be a candidate. But no way NIT Kurukshetra.

  13. I don’t know much since I haven’t been to any and have not been researching enough. But from what I know, Trichy and Warangal are the best ones

  14. @achyuth sanjay: No Delhite would ever say: “thats not the kinda attitude u wd take to somewhere other than Delhi, if u dont want ur ass kicked.”

  15. Yeah !

NIT Kkr is not the best ……..but still u cant categorically say which is the best NIT

I fell …….except top 5 none is worth

    1. Trichy
    2. Surathkal
    3. Kurukshetra
    4. Warangal
and there is a contender for 5th

    5. Allahabad ( although not very sure )

I feel the government stands to convert these NIT into some institution like IIT’s ……..

I dont know why the government is setting up new IIT’s , when there are shabby things in age old NIT’s

Except Hostel, u will find everything comparable to IIT’s in NIT’s

  16. NIT Kurukshetra is above average or you can say best in north india OR you can say best in upper India but if you will ask me then I must say that this is the best engineering college. One more reason why it is the best because I also spent my time in this college.
